The Popularity of Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson is one of the notorious boxers in the history of prizefighting. This is due to these moves both in and out of the ring.  His power, speed and angry aggressiveness earned him the World Boxing Council heavyweight title in the year 1986. This makes him as the youngest champion ever. The following year he won the World Boxing Association title and became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Aside from boxing, Mike Tyson is also famous for his tattoos, including the images of Mao Zedong, Arthur Ashe, Che Guevara and a tribal tattoo around his cheekbone and right eye. Reportedly, he earned more than $400 million in his boxing career yet owed $34 million debt before his fight with Kevin McBride in 2005 in which he was paid $5 million vs. $150,000 for McBride.

Tyson started to make other headlines such as his short marriage to Robin Givens which was followed by a difficult divorce battle. He was then convicted of rape in the year 1992 and spent three years in prison. His 1997 comeback was stymied when he bit off Evander Holyfield’s ear in the middle of their match. Fans of Tyson considered him as a troubled youth who had to battle long odds to become one of the greatest sports names in the world.
